Day 1: Lima, Peru
Fly to Lima and where you can walk across to your hotel, just a few feet from the airport.
Day 2: Arequipa
Fly to Arequipa, Peru’s beautiful second city for a tour of its exquisite plazas, tranquil convent and unique museums. Sample the local specialties while observing the hustle and bustle in the main square.
Day 3: Arequipa / Colca Canyon
Your trip into altitude begins as we take you on a three day guided tour of Colca Canyon. On the way you’ll get a chance to see the elusive vicuña grazing on the high Andean plains. Take a break at 4,800m for a warm cup of coca tea surrounded by snow capped volcanoes. In the afternoon relax in Chivay’s thermal baths and admire the views of Colca Canyon. Stay overnight in a cozy local hotel.
Day 4: Colca Canyon Tour
After breakfast, we´ll bring you to the best place to observe the Andean Condors. Visit various viewpoints to see Colca Canyon and the villages that line the rim of the canyon. See how the local people still farm in this dramatic landscape before returning to your hotel in Chivay and perhaps a gentle hike or some horse riding, or just sit by the fire and admire the views.
Day 5: Colca Canyon / Lake Titicaca
Another chance to see Andean condors or soak-in the scenery of the Canyon before your comfortable transfer across the Andean altiplano, or high plains, to Puno—on the shores of the highest navigable lake in the world—Lake Titicaca.
Day 6: Lake Titicaca Tour
We pick you up from your hotel to take you on a full day guided tour of Lake Titicaca visiting two completely different and unique traditional societies. The Uros people live on reed islands that they make themselves: the islands making up an entire community including post office, shops, school and clinics. The other island is Taquile, which has its own unique traditions and is a very pretty island with no motorised transport. Return by boat to Puno and your city center hotel.
Day 7: Puno to Cusco Tour
Today we bring you to your first-class tourist bus across the high altiplano to Cusco and your city center hotel. There are regular stops so you can appreciate the historic sites of Raqchi and Andahuaylias and the stunning mountain scenery.
Day 8: Cusco Tour
Wake up in Cusco – the Inca heartland. On your tour of Cusco, see the amazing blend of Inca stonework side by side with intact colonial houses. The artwork at Cusco Cathedral uniquely shows how the ancient Andean people mingles with the rest of the world, and in the main plaza you can still see this mix of old and new taking place all around you.
Day 9: Sacred Valley Tour
On your tour of the Sacred Valley enjoy bartering for local handicrafts in Pisaq, and be amazed by the skill of the Incas as you visit ruins throughout the valley. The Sacred Valley is a lush area surrounded by snow capped peaks. Stay overnight in this peaceful valley.
Day 10: Machu Picchu by Train
Travel in comfort on a train to the base of Machu Picchu. You will then take a bus up the hill to where the sacred ruins of the Incas are perched on a dramatic peak surrounded by mountains and forests. We take you on a full tour of the site, you then have plenty of time to explore Machu Picchu at your leisure. Return to Cusco.
Day 11: Second Day at Machu Picchu
Day 12: Cusco / Lima
You have the morning free to explore Cusco before your afternoon flight to Lima.
Day 13: Lima to Guayaquil
Fly from Lima to Guayaquil, Ecuador for the second part of your trip – the Galapagos Islands!
Days 14—17: Galapagos Islands Cruise
After a short flight, you arrive in The Galapagos Islands – brimming with plants and animals found nowhere else on earth. You will be met there and transferred to your ship to begin your next adventure - a 4 day cruise of the Galapagos Islands (can be extended to 5 or 8 days).
Choose between larger, more stable vessels of 90-100 passengers and the smaller, more intimate vessels (16-20). Choose the ship that suits your traveling style and the sturdiness of your sea legs! Whatever your choice you will have a comfortable cabin, excellent food throughout and, importantly, naturalist guides who can help you tell your booby from your finch.
Itineraries vary depending on your cruise ship, but every day you will have two excursions - boarding a panga (motorized raft) to go ashore and walk with your guide through mangrove, cactus forest and beaches to experience the nature of these amazing islands.
Typical Galapagos Cruise Excursions include:
Day 18: Final Day Galapagos, Fly Home
After a morning excursion, you return to the airport for your flight to mainland Ecuador (Quito or Guayaquil) and home.
