Chichen Itza Mexico & Machu Picchu Peru Tour
from 8 Days
+ Flights
Includes transfers, tours & hotels – internal flights will be added
Sample Itinerary – Will Be Customized
After your international flight to Cancun, we’ll pick you up at the airport and transfer you to your hotel – likely in Playa del Carmen. Or if you’re flying through Mexico City, we can add-on a flight to Cancun. You can also do this trip in reverse – starting in Peru.
You will have this day open to just rest and relax at your hotel by the beach or you could add-on a snorkeling excursion. Or visit the nearby ruins of Tulum, in its own spectacular, unique setting overlooking the Caribbean.
Today we will bring you on a full-day tour of one of Mexico’s historic and cultural jewels and one of the seven modern man-made wonders of the world – Chichen Itza ! Located only a couple hours inside the Yucatan peninsula from the coast, you will have a guided tour around the most important Mayan ruin on the continent. Along the way you will have time for some local shopping, have an authentic Mexican lunch and the chance to have a dip in one of the limestone peninsula’s famous cenotes (optional).
Today we will bring you to the airport for your flights to Lima, Peru. You will simply stay at the airport hotel, to rest for your flight to Cusco the following morning.
Upon arrival in Cusco, you will be transported straight to the Sacred Valley and your hotel there. At a significantly lower altitude than Cusco, this will assist with acclimatization. If time allows and you feel up to it, we can stop by some local places along the way.
Today you’ll join a small group or private vehicle for a tour of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, accompanied by a professional, English-speaking guide. You’ll have the chance to visit the markets at Pisac – the most famous in the Valley – with wares from local vendors, and if there’s time, the ruins above the town. With a lunch break included, you’ll also visit the village and ruins of Ollantaytambo – a special Inca fortress with a unique history … and the departing point for trains to Machu Picchu. A private tour will also allow you take in the Salt Mines at Maras and the agricultural terraces at Moray. That evening, prepare a day bag only for the train and tour of Machu Picchu. Your luggage will be transferred to Cusco.
Today we bring you to the station at Ollanta for your train to Machu Picchu town, where you will be met by your next guide. S/he will join you on the bus up to this amazing ancient Inca Citadel. Together you will explore this staggering archaeological and engineering masterpiece – and then have some time to enjoy the site at your leisure – taking more photos, or simply sitting in quiet contemplation. In the afternoon, you will head back down for lunch in the town and then your train and transfer back to Cusco and your hotel there.
Option: Spend an additional night in the town below Machu Picchu, visiting again the following morning. Ascend the peak of Huayna Picchu – if you think the views are worth the steep and challenging climb!
Hopefully you will have the morning free to explore a bit of Cusco (depending on your flight home) – or we can add-on a tour. In the afternoon we will bring you to the airport for your flights to Lima and onwards home … an unforgettable trip!
